About the Area
The Great Smokies and the Blue Ridge
are two mountain ranges in western North Carolina that are world renowned for their
diverse plant and animal species, ancient beauty, and Southern Appalachian
mountain culture. In fact the Smoky Mountain range is also home to America’s
most visited national park and a
sanctuary for a magnificent array of animal and plant life, all of which is
protected for future generations to enjoy.

Western North Carolina is an outdoorsman’s paradise with hundreds of miles of mountain trails, pristine lakes and rivers teeming with trout, magnificent mountain overlooks and cascading waterfalls. And Bear Lake Reserve is situated on Bear Creek Lake, one of the last undeveloped lakes in the area. This area boasts a moderate climate, typified by mild winters and hot, humid summers. When planning a trip to the Smokies, keep in mind that elevations range from just over 875 feet to 6,643 feet.
